Changing the Number on Your Caller ID
When Your Caller ID lies... When it comes down to it, a lot of us who like to be left alone from annoying phone calls, love our caller id. The " caller identification " on a phone allows for us to pick the phone up and see who is trying to get ahold of us. Sounds simple right? Not so fast... These days with technology improving and life around us being run by machines we tend to take for granted those things that we trust so much to tell us the truth. Our gas gauges tell us when we need to fill up, our thermostats automatically keep our homes and businesses warm and our phones tell us who is on the other end. All of the above can be found true...but at the same time...what happens when things break?
- If your gas gauge decides to get stuck, is it telling you when to fill up at the right time?
- When the thermostat is on the fritz, does it keep you from sweating or freezing?
- And now you have to ask yourself, is that name showing up on my caller id the right one?
With technology getting more and more advanced, the age of phone spoofing has risen. It takes on the form of your best friend but in reality can be your worst nightmare. Nightmares uses can includes:

This technology is done by being able to call a number on the spoof card and entering your pin. The software then asks you to choose a number you wish to display on the caller id. You can pick anything you want! Then it asks you for the number to call. Once you have placed the number it automatically creates a three way call between you and the number you dialed creating the spoofed number via VOIP technology. VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol - This technology can manipulate the number you see via the internet. This makes it very easy to change your caller id. I change my caller id for practical uses because it allows me to stay private. Running a business I get a lot of people who find out my personal cell phone number and try to call me all the time for non-business reasons. I proceed to call the number back that has a changed identification that comes up to find out what the call is for. So remember next time, when you go to pick up the phone...it may be lying to you.
