How You Can Make Your Desktop PC to Sleep
Desktop computers generally consume 65 to 250 watts of electricity. If you are interested in knowing how much consumption is done by your desktop PC you can confer with the manufacturer. The product may mention the consumption but it is may differ in the real functioning. But most of the people are supposedly not interested in knowing the exact amount. The saving of power by keeping the computer off is not so much significant as compared to the other electronic appliances of the home. So instead of grudging over the power consumption by the computer device you can find the alternative by saving power through curtailing the use of other electronic machines like the heaters, coolers or the lightings. But it is also true that you must not waste power by keeping your monitor on even though you are not using the machine. When your monitor is in a sleep mode or standby position a lot of energy is saved. If your computer is made to sleep automatically the time you are not operating the system it is all the more better. But still your computer is not a great consumer of electricity as you might be thinking. It is very simple by which you can make your desktop pc to sleep. For the system having Windows XP you need to follow the steps by first clicking the start menu then control panel, then click power options. For the Mac users you need to go to the energy saver through the system preference options. When your system is on a sleep mode also known by hibernate or standby the system the system is consuming even less power just at 0-6 watts. You can make your system go to the sleep condition after some unused time. Contrary to the belief the screensavers are not very efficient at saving any energy. Rather the energy is saved only when the monitor is dark as it is in sleep condition. There are also options available on the Windows Vista environment to save power. In Windows Vista sleep is the default mode which saves power. Though the system is in sleep condition your work is preserved in the memory. You will have to set the time after which the system will be off to sleep at the predetermined time. During sudden power failure Windows Vista has ' Hybrid Sleep ' capability which will have the capacity to restore all the work from the hard disk. If you want to awaken the system from the 'Hybrid Sleep' you just have to push the power button. You will see that the computer has resumed the state where you have left it. By 'PC Sleep' which is a sleep timer you can now perform the functions of automatic shut down or restart or hibernate or standby at the predetermined time set by you. You will find a pop-up which will aware you about the function going to be performed and you will have the choice to stop the timer if you wish to. Read more at:
